Maya Hayuk

I've been writing down lists of things to write about here, but found myself much too busy to concentrate on anything so frivolous as a blog about hedonism! Then my sister (artist-journalist-international relations student) sent me a link for this Brooklyn, NY-based artist. I found her work so stunningly beautiful and energising that I had to write something straight away. She does murals, installation art, screen printing, t-shirt design, album covers etc. etc., but most recently has collaborated with Billabong to create swimwear. Enjoy...

CENTURIAN!

For my 100th post I would like to present a collage of over-filtered Instagram photos, mostly things in my everyday life that inspire me :) Sorry about the shameless selfie, but I really do <3 my new glasses!

Just a few early March hedonistic obsessions

Topshop 'Bolt' ring

Tweed Jacket again!

The way my sister and I would dress if we were cooler than we actually are

February Love

Things I've fallen for this Februrary:

- COLD BREW: I've just discovered iced black coffee and loving it! The cool version is a cold drip brewed coffee that seems to have originated in New Orleans, but I've been putting a double-shot espresso over lots of ice.

- HOUNDSTOOTH: unless you work at David Jones

- JESSICA HART IN SHORTS: she rocks any pair of shorts, and manages to mix a casual alternative look with some prim-ness. Also loving the top know, which she varies by wearing it to one side.

- LEATHER JACKET BY RICK OWENS: they will always be in fashion, and this one looks super-soft and comfy. Looks like a million bucks and thats not far off the actual price :(

- ANYTHING MINT: and especially in this Cambridge Satchel Co satchel, I first saw the brand when I noticed a friend had one embossed with her initials, and the actual product is beautiful. https://www.cambridgesatchel.co.uk/

- SHORT SUITS: I'm not sure if I missed this trend or if its occurring right now, but short suits, especially in pink, seem to be popping up on my radar. Topshop have a quilted version, and Caroline Flack is rocking a hot one below (sorry, I have no idea who she is)

- SIENNA MILLER: I have loved her style ever since she STOPPED wearing her boho chic garb. She's still alternative, and manages to look cool as a new mum. I like the half-up top knot but don't think many people could actually pull that off. Her bub Marlowe is cute but I'm not tempted to follow her with that particular accessory ;)

- STRIPES: they come in and out of fashion but I have and always will love them

- TWO-TONE BAGS: the weirder the colour match, the better. High-end brands have done a lot of these lately, but I think the colour is so striking that a cheaper version will be just as interesting as the colours take the focus away from the fabric. They are bound to go out of fashion again soon, just like the two-tone pointy shoes have in the bottom photo!
