Marant Madness

The first time I heard of Isabel Marant was during my brief time living in the UK. I was in the habit of buying lots a glossies and poring over them in bed. One of these magazines had an interview with the French designer and photos of her in her studio, wearing awesome red pants and high heels. The main thing I realised was that she designed really cool 'slouchy' clothes, that included suede, pirate type boots that I was obsessed with at the time (despite their price being well outside my reach!). My interest in her was reignited recently when another interview with her was featured in Marie Claire Australia. It stated that the fashion uniform of the perennially cool (e.g. Emanuelle Alt, Kate Moss, Elle Macpherson, zillions of other nameless supermodels) is based on Marant's style ethos: tight low-waisted pants with sneakers or stillettos, slouchy t-shirts in grey marle, and amazing jackets that flatter the waist and broaden the shoulders. I now pronounce myself obsessed.

Emanuelle Alt was the stylist for the brand before working as Fashion Editor at Vogue.
